In January of this year, a significant increase in the number of housing construction starts was recorded compared to the same period the previous year. According to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS), the number of residential buildings started increased by 66.4%, reaching 15,720. Compared to the previous month, the increase was 9.3%.
Of particular note was the increase in the number of apartments being built by developers, reaching 12,051 units - an increase of 107.2% year-on-year and 8.1% month-on-month. Individual investors also continued construction, although there was a slight decrease of 0.8%. According to the Office, the share of these forms of construction amounted to 99.1% of the total number of apartments.
It is estimated that at the end of January 2024, approximately 802,800 apartments were under construction, representing a decrease of 2.5% compared to the same period the previous year.
