Poland is entering a new stage of expanding its retail infrastructure, planning to develop over 1.2 million square meters of modern retail space by 2025. Data from the Polish Council of Shopping Centers (PRCH) indicate the realization of 110 new retail facilities, including 98 retail parks, and the expansion of 26 existing facilities. This significant leap aims to meet the growing demand for retail space in the country. The new investments encompass various types of facilities, from shopping centers to parks and mixed-use complexes, as well as outlet centers.
PRCH indicates that the planned expansion will result in a growth of retail space by over 9%, with over 75% constituted by newly established retail parks. Mazovia is the region expecting the most significant growth, accounting for nearly 22% of the planned new retail space.
In just 2023 alone, the opening of 25 new facilities with a total area of approximately 186,000 square meters GLA is planned. In the following years (2024-2025), the number of new investments will also be significant, exceeding 48 and 37 facilities respectively, with approximately 490,000 square meters GLA and 344,000 square meters GLA.
PRCH, emphasizing the dynamism of the sector, highlighted the significant role of Mazovia, Silesia, and Lower Silesia in the planned investments. These regions expect the creation of the largest number of new retail facilities in the coming years.
By the end of the first half of 2023, the retail space in Poland had already exceeded 13 million square meters, with shopping centers constituting 82% of it. The growth of this infrastructure will contribute to the increasing diversity of the retail offering in the country.
